My daughter Sage and I are close, and one quality we share in common is imagination.
Just before Sage’s third birthday, her mother and I separated. For a few years after that, I struggled to secure a job and living situation that would allow me to remain close to my little girl.
Those were difficult times, but regardless of the challenges we faced, I made it a point to tell Sage a bedtime story every night she stayed with me, sometimes only once a week. These fantastic tales were improvised, but often they were inspired by real events happening in our daily lives.
As Sage grew older, she began to chime in with her own voice and perspective, creating these tales by my side on her way to sleep at night.
It’s a tradition we continue to this day.
We hope you enjoy.
